All you really need to know about me is that I’ve been writing for a living since the 4th of January, 1970. Over the past 42 years I’ve written ads, brochures, mailings, TV commercials and websites. As an executive I’ve written memos, reports, new business pitches, speeches, seminar papers and strategy documents.
I worked for Ogilvy & Mather as a copywriter, group head and creative director. My clients included Shell Oil, American Express, 3M and Dow Chemical. Then as Merchandising Director of Cellarmaster Wines I was on the management team that built the company into the world’s leading direct marketer of wine.
My career has taught me many things about writing that I never learned in school. But it has also confirmed many things my education led me to believe. Chief among these is my unshakeable belief that clear writing is the product of clear thinking.
So my highest ambition for this blog is that it helps us both to think more clearly about what we write and how we write it.
Thank you for taking the time to visit.
